For many, the law sounds like something distant - the language of institutions, courtrooms, and specialists. But it is part of everyday life for each of us; the only question is whether we tell it in a way that reaches people.

With this publication we continue the series in which we present the host organizations and fellows in the fourth edition of the program "Digital Marketing for Meaningful Causes" (DMF 4.0) - the program through which the America for Bulgaria Foundation, in partnership with Impact Drive, connects young digital marketing talents with organizations working for a cause.

This time the series arrives at the "Bulgarian Judges Association" (BJA) - the independent professional organization of Bulgarian judges, for which telling an accessible story about the law is also a matter of public trust. This year, fellow Stefani Todorova joins its team - a young marketing specialist interested in how important social issues can reach far beyond the professional community.

For the host organization: nearly three decades for an independent judiciary

The "Bulgarian Judges Association" was founded in 1997 by 29 Bulgarian judges - the first professional judges' organization after 1989 and successor to the tradition of the Union of Bulgarian Judges, which existed between 1919 and 1948. Thus, from its very founding, the Association has built upon one of the oldest professional associations in Bulgarian legal history.

The organization's mission is clearly defined: to unite judges from across the country and to work for an independent and effective judicial system, for the professional development of magistrates, and for strengthening the role and prestige of the judiciary. The BJA is a voluntary association - membership in it is an expression of professional commitment, rather than an official obligation.

Over the years, the Association's work has developed in several directions. The organization supports the professional qualification of judges, initiates and takes part in professional forums and discussions, publishes materials, and advocates for legislative solutions in favor of more effective justice. Equally important is another area - legal education and the promotion of the rule of law, through which the Association addresses not only the professional community but society as well.

The BJA's contribution can be read on several levels. On a professional level, the organization builds and maintains a community of judges for whom the independence and quality of justice are a shared responsibility. On an institutional level, through its work the Association upholds the idea of an independent and effective judiciary as the foundation of the rule of law. And on a societal level, trust in the judiciary is also built when people understand how it functions, and when the law ceases to be a closed territory reserved only for specialists.

The fellow: Stefani Todorova

Stefani Todorova is an management student at the Bucharest University of Economic Studies, where she completed her first year entirely in Romanian - following preliminary academic language preparation. Her interest in marketing, digital communications, and cause promotion began back in high school; she is drawn to strategic planning and to creating content that delivers real value. It is precisely this that brought her to the "Digital Marketing for Meaningful Causes" program as well.

Within DMF 4.0, Stefani has worked with two organizations from the legal field. Her experience began at the Bulgarian Institute for Legal Initiatives (BILI) Foundation - an independent organization working for the rule of law, transparency, and good governance. There her task was to present legal topics to young people in an accessible and engaging way. Stefani developed new communication formats - among them a series of video interviews with young people from Bulgaria and Romania, who look at legal issues through the lens of young people themselves and explore the differences in social attitudes between the two countries. She also worked on creating an anniversary and symbolic logo for the organization, reflecting its history and identity. These projects show that even complex social topics can be told in an understandable and engaging way, as long as the approach to the content is right.

During the second part of the program, Stefani joined the "Bulgarian Judges Association", where she worked on an area new to the organization - reaching a youth audience. She developed communication approaches and content that present legal topics in more accessible and engaging language, without losing their professional accuracy. The goal is for the law to reach even people who previously thought the field didn't concern them - and this requires both a sense for the audience and respect for the subject matter.

"The biggest lesson for me was how important it is that the information you present is not only impactful, but also completely reliable and precisely adapted to the audience. A good strategy must include building trust between the organization and its audience. It is precisely this balance between expertise and accessibility that is one of the most interesting challenges in my work." - Stefani Todorova
